The story behind the Jackie O Dress
As told by Designer, Founder and Creative Director Laurel Berman
I’ve been asked so many times what my inspiration was behind our Jackie O Dress. Honestly, it came out of necessity. One of my favorite go-to looks was a high-waist pencil skirt and a silk camisole. Every time I sat down or moved my camisole would come untucked. As a designer I had the luxury of solving the problem myself by stitching the two pieces together. This led to the creation of the Bouquet Cami Dress, which landed us our first cover of Lucky Magazine worn by actress Mandy Moore.
The Jackie O Dress made her debut in our Fall 2006 collection. The dress was an instant hit! “Jackie” could be worn to work, cocktails and dinner afterwards! From everyday working women to Hollywood celebrities, everyone loved the flattering fit. My design philosophy has always been to make women feel 2” taller and 5lbs thinner when slipping into a Black Halo dress.
Like the woman she was named after, the dress became a modern classic. As the Black Halo brand had become synonymous with style and fit, the Jackie O Dress is the embodiment of the brand. The dress continued to evolve taking on many different incarnations; the ¾ sleeve Jackie O Dress, the Jackie Jumpsuit, the Jackie O Mini and the Jackie O Romper.
With consistent demand for the Jackie O Dress throughout the last decade I wanted to share a special thank you with our loyal fans and clientele that made the milestone possible.
